Activism

November 4, 2012
On this eve of the 2012 elections I am reflecting on my journey to activism. I am 51 years old and just this year started in earnest the work of developing my role as an activist. Being a single mom working night shift and overtime while raising three young men and providing educational opportunities for them has hampered my ability to do more sooner. It's my turn now. I am finishing my education and starting my financial recovery as I throw the last one out of the nest. I will leave him as I did the first two, by leaving the nest myself. Good luck! Let me know if you get desperate and need something! I carry images of the Staples commercial with the dad dancing to the sound of music through the isles at the start of the back to school sales. Gleaming and excited at what will be my first opportunity to focus on my life and my five year plan. It is the gift from my mother that she has always championed as the way forward. My blog was something I had to dream about for years before I could find enough time to move forward on. It is much like the dreams I carried in my head for 10 years before I could afford time and money to build my 100 feet of stone walls for my own home or the thoughts that I could be an artist or a writer. Give me an opportunity and I will seize it. So this page will be for my personal reflection. To see where I started and watch my own progress and growth. I do not always know where life will take me, but there are catalysts, mentors and those who inspire me along the way. I for one, believe that individual efforts are enhanced by those ingredients of dimension and depth that enable me to stretch the ideas in my mind. Thank you to the friends, family and even strangers that make my experience a unique and fulfilled one.

Rick Rome reached out to not only inspire me, but ensure that I attended the National Partnership for Women and Families 2012 Convention in Washington DC. Hillary Clinton was keynote speaker. What a brilliant woman who represents anything is possible when opportunity is seized!

Women for Murphy/ Chris Murphy: The run for Senate 2012
The Women for Murphy Speech Delivered~!
Senator Blumenthal was there to support the next junior Senator of CT

May 10, 2013 at Hartford Hospital Nurse's Week Celebrations my friend Katie Vees made the call to get our newly elected Senator Chris Murphy to share in our celebration.  As we sat and listened in on the board room meeting with a variety of healthcare providers discussing the challenges that we must face in the future. It was very apparent to us all about the vast and intimate understandings that Senator Murphy possesses in regards to healthcare in America. Katie and I were captivated and inspired!

September 29, 2014 Officially a member of the National Organization for Women, NOW

I worked on the 2014 campaign. I worked hard on the phone and if you have never participated in mass campaign dialing, you do not know what you are missing! My ears hurt! While in New Britain, we had a visit from the candidates running this year as well as support from others representatives such as Senator Chris Murphy.
